NZAEL Genetic Base Change
As of June 26, 2010 the New Zealand Animal Evaluation system has changed its genetic base to the group of cows that were born in 2000 (from 1995 base) and that had performance records for all traits in the evaluation system in the dairy season 2002/03.

For the Breeding Worth (BW) index you can expect the reported BW for each animal to be approximately $41 lower prior to this genetic base change.

LIC PURCHASES AUSTRALIAN ENGINEERING COMPANY

Farm improvement company, LIC, today announced that it has completed the purchase of Paul Shewan & Co Ltd, trading as Northern Feed Systems.

Northern Feed Systems is an Australian engineering company designing and manufacturing stock feed handling systems, from grain roller mills, to in-shed feeding systems for rotary and herringbone dairies.

The company also owns the Intellectual property associated with the cow drafting gates used in LIC’s Protrack farm automation product.

LIC Chief Executive, Mark Dewdney, said LIC has been involved in the Australian dairy industry for a long time, selling genetics and – until recently – farm automation systems, partly manufactured by Northern Feed Systems.

"We’re delighted to welcome Northern Feed Systems to the LIC Group.

"It’s business as usual for the Northern Feed Systems team, and we’re going to grow the business to meet the demand for farm equipment in Australia".
